Q: Does my child need speech-language therapy, or will they just outgrow this?
A: Although many children "outgrow" certain speech/language delays, an evaluation by a professional speech-language pathologist is always advised if you suspect your child has a communication disorder. Sometimes, a "wait-and-see" approach will be recommended. In that case, the therapist will give tips and suggestions of what to watch for, how to work with your child at home, and recommendations for a follow-up.
Q: How long until my child gets better?
A: As with most therapies, time in therapy can rarely be accurately predicted. After a full evaluation, your therapist may be able to give you an approximate time frame.
Q: Speech- Language Therapy is provided in schools, so why should I get my child outside help?
A: Although there are exceptional speech-language pathologists in the school system, extra therapy for your child is ALWAYS advisable. Many therapy sessions in school are done in group, and often only once or twice per week. Having an additional one-on-one therapy session can often expedite and improve your child's results.
Q: What if I need more information about my child's condition?
A: I am happy to provide a complimentary phone consultation to answer any questions.
